Port Jefferson, New York Train Station - LIRR

Port Jefferson on the north shore of Long Island is a historic seaport and the gateway to Suffolk County.

Transport Linkages

The Suffolk County Transit Bus service links the LIRR station with many of the surrounding areas, and there is also a taxi stand at the station.

Around Port Jefferson

Port Jefferson is a great place to get out of the city for a day trip. A walk around the historic seaport makes for a pleasant day, with plenty of unique shops on Main Street to browse through and some great little restaurants to relax in the evening.

Other Jefferson Port Branch Stations

Hicksville is a great place for visitors to head for a bit of outdoor recreation at Cantiague Park. Here there are tennis courts, mini-golf, outdoor swimming pools and an ice-skating rink. The Hicksville Gregory Museum is also a quaint little museum, with some pretty spectacular rock and butterfly collections.

Further along the line is Huntington, full of small, trendy boutiques and cafes, which make a nice place to stop and relax for the afternoon. There are also a number of museums worth a visit in Huntington, including the Heckscher Museum of Art and Walt Whitman’s birthplace. You can also take a tour around the historic Oheka Castle.
